The U.S. Embassy in Côte d’Ivoire held its first Interfaith Day of Service in Kplessou, a small rural community located about 10 km from the central city of Toumodi on October 17, 2009. The day-long activity offered some 15 volunteers from the embassy and three Ivorian religious leaders from different groups the opportunity to help the people of Kplessou build houses. Desiring to continue the efforts that were spurred by the U.S. President Barack Obama, Christian volunteers in the city of Abidjan , have reached out for the baton. The next Interfaith event is sponsored by the Associations For Christians in Action (AFCA). On January 5, 2010, Pastors from various denominations will pull together to reach out to the Village of Débarcadère .
